Below is a list of ideas for things you can do to make a big difference yourself. Don’t worry about what others say, or if other people aren’t making changes, keep on pestering politely, and keep making changes yourself.
-
Use technology for good.
Why not switch to a web search engine that plants trees for searches (there are brilliant search engines that do this, so trees will be planted while you search).
-
Speak up & make your voice heard.
Join your school council, join nature clubs, join a local action group, let your green thoughts and ideas be seen and heard online (wherever it’s safe to do so).
-
Educate yourself about climate change.
learn as much as you can about nature and green science, so if grown ups question your views, you’ll have the facts to explain what you think.
work hard at school so when you’re older you can try to help the world and the environment be a better place. -
Travel, getting around & holiday.
Walk to school if you can. Use your bike when it’s safe to do so, and if your parents agree {the bicycle is the most environmentally form of transport. Make sure you know how to use your bike safely, use safe roads, and cycle with your parents if possible.
-
Spend Time With Nature.
Try to protect the forests and if you can plant lots of trees. Trees ‘feed’ on carbon dioxide and convert it into oxygen, which humans need to breathe.
forest bathe, grow things in your garden, encourage your parents to spend time with you outdoors to reconnect them with nature. -
Money & Saving.
Be careful where you shop and what you buy with your pocket money (if you get any). The 100 biggest companies in the world are responsible for more than 70 per cent of the worlds global emissions (gases that cause climate change). Try and buy from companies that treat the world with care.
Get your family to invest in things that do good {when you put your money in a bank - the bank invests your money, make sure that your bank is investing your money where it helps the environment. -
Food & What You Eat.
Try not to eat too much meat (meat and dairy is responsible for between 12-17% of total global greenhouse emissions) {2021}, if you do eat meat eat - organic free range chicken is the best option}.
If you can and your parents agree, try and eat a mostly vegetarian diet. Try and eat vegetables and food grown without using chemicals. -
Stop asking for new things all the time.
We live in a world where new versions of things are made and sold all the time. Just because a new version of a phone or games console comes out, does not mean that you need to have it. Usually the thing you have will last for years. It might not have all the very lastest lttle gizmo’s and games, but please try and wait as long as possible for buying something new. When and if you do buy something new - please make sure you recycle the old one.
